Tararua Community Services is a connected, community-based service supporting tamariki, rangatahi and whānau across the region. Our work is grounded in te oranga ake – flourishing together, and we are passionate about empowering people to thrive.
As a Rangatahi/Youth Social Worker, you will walk alongside rangatahi as they navigate life’s challenges, helping them build resilience, confidence, and a sense of hope. You will support them to identify their goals and navigate challenges, taking a holistic approach to connecting them with the right support services, programmes and opportunities. Alongside this, you’ll provide practical and emotional support, while strengthening relationships with whānau and working collaboratively with schools, agencies and community networks.
This is meaningful, relationship-based mahi where your ability to connect with rangatahi and advocate for their wellbeing will make a genuine difference.
You’ll be someone who:
- Builds trust easily and connects authentically with rangatahi
- Brings warmth, empathy, humour and a grounded presence
- Is confident supporting young people with trauma histories or complex life challenges
- Enjoys facilitating group programmes and engaging creatively
- Works collaboratively and contributes positively to team culture
- Is resilient, adaptable and committed to empowering others
This is a permanent role working 40 hours per week based in Dannevirke.
Ngā pūkenga me te wheako | Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration (or eligibility)
- Experience working with rangatahi in the social services sector
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Understanding of Te Ao Māori and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Ability to engage effectively with whānau, schools and community networks
- Good organisational and time management skills
- A full, clean NZ driver licence
- A commitment to upholding a tika and pono (values-based, violence-free) lifestyle
