About the role

Tararua Community Services are looking for an experienced Family Harm Practitioner to join our supportive and collaborative team based in Woodville on a permanent full-time basis. The Family Harm Practitioner is a family violence ‘specialist’ role that requires relevant professional experience, life skills and maturity.  Reporting to the Team Leader, Social Work Practice, you will be responsible for:

  • Being a family violence ‘specialist’ providing a family harm response service in the Tararua district.
  • Completing assessments, plans and reviews ensuring timely and accurate case notes.
  • Building and maintaining effective professional networks with relevant external agencies and social services.
  • Leading an effective Safety Assessment Meeting (SAM) service including ‘mentoring’ practitioners new to the SAM environment.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

It is important to us that the successful candidate is a natural collaborator and has the attributes to become an advocate and leader for family harm response work in our community. You will have:

  • A tertiary level qualification (preferably social work)
  • A professional registration and a current practicing certificate
  • Extensive professional background in the social service sector with specific experience in family harm intervention.
  • The ability to be creative and think outside the box to reach positive outcomes.
  • Have a strong moral compass with high professional ethics and personal values that align with our organisation.
  • A natural ability to engage, communicate and collaborate with people from all walks of life.
  • A desire to share ideas and support colleagues.
  • Previous experience using client management systems or database software.
  • Competency in working with Māori, with a sound understanding of Te Ao Māori and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This is a role that requires someone with a deep commitment to social justice, equity and the wellbeing of individuals, whānau and communities. It will suit someone that lives a tika and pono (violence free) lifestyle and who will advocate for those that do not.

We provide social work, whānau support, parenting programmes, maternity support, youth mentoring, group programmes, safer seniors services and counselling to help people take positive action in their lives.
