We are looking for a professional, energetic and certificated Early Childhood Teacher to join our experienced team at Waiapu Kids – St George’s based in Whakatāne. This is a permanent position, 24 hours per week, with potential to pick up more hours as and when needed if agreed.

About us

Waiapu Kids St George’s is a well-established community based Early Childhood Education Centre, offering high quality education and care in a safe and compassionate play based, environment catering for up to 50 tamariki aged from birth to 5 years. This role would ideally be for a passionate, infants and toddlers kaiako.

Our centre is part of Anglican Care Waiapu (ACW) which is the social services arm of the Anglican Diocese of Waiapu. Our ECE centres are located across eight locations in Bay of Plenty, Tairāwhiti and Hawkes Bay and offer safe, nurturing, and educational environments for children and whānau to thrive. About the role

You’ll be part of a close-knit team who are passionate about nurturing children’s development through stimulating, fun and enriched interest-based learning. Positive, respectful relationships with each other, our whānau, tamariki and community are important to us and integral to who we are.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day education, well-being, and health and safety of children attending our centre; ensuring provision of education and care to service standards. You will also demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and bi-cultural practice and meet the Teaching Council’s required Teaching Standards. The role requires a teacher with a strong values base and who conduct themselves with integrity, professionalism, and care.

About you

You will be a Registered ECE Teacher who thrives in a busy environment. You’ll be someone who enjoys creating opportunities for children to explore, experiment and problem solve allowing them to grow to their full potential.

Your passion for children and learning will be underpinned by your natural ability to communicate and build strong nurturing relationships. With endless amounts of energy and enthusiasm you will become a valuable team player always willing to go the extra mile.

Key Requirements:

It is essential you have an ECE or Primary teaching qualification recognised by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. You must also have full or provisional registration. You will also possess:

  • A love and passion for working with children and their whānau
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong professional ethics
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and a commitment to excellent early childhood practice
  • The ability to build relationships and work in partnership with a variety of external and internal stakeholders including parents, families/whānau, community, Iwi, other social services, our church partners
  • A willingness to embrace the Anglican Care Waiapu values and mission
  • Proven experience in planning, assessment, evaluation, and self-review
  • Knowledge and practice of Te Whāriki and MOE Licensing Criteria
