Anglican Care Waiapu (ACW) is the social services arm of the Anglican Diocese of Waiapu. Our Early Childcare Education Centres – Waiapu Kids are located across eight locations in Bay of Plenty, Tairāwhiti and Hawkes Bay and offer safe, nurturing, and educational environments for children and whānau to thrive.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic ECE Teaching Assistant to join our experienced team at Waiapu Kids Te Hapara Whānau Aroha based in Tairawhiti. This is a permanent position working 30 hours per week.

Waiapu Kids Te Hapara Whānau Aroha is a well-established community based Early Childhood Education Centre, offering high quality education and care in a safe and compassionate play based environment catering for up to 50 tamariki aged from 4 months to 5 years.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

You will play a supporting role, assisting teachers in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and development of the children at the centre.

As our ECE Teaching Assistant you will:

  • Be a part of the routines within the centre alongside qualified staff and other teachers.
  • Nurture and care for babies and young children on site.
  • Plan and undertake learning experiences with and for children.
  • Set up spaces for provocation or learning for children to engage with.
  • Be a part of planning for and maintain learning profiles for children at the centre.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Assist and support staff with small and large groups of children

You will be part of a close-knit team who are passionate about nurturing children’s development through stimulating, fun and enriched interest-based learning. Positive, respectful relationships with each other, our whānau, tamariki and community are important to us and integral to who we are.

You will be someone who has some experience in childcare practices or is currently studying or entering into study and looking to pursue a career as a teacher. You will thrive in a busy environment where tamariki and whanau are at the heart of what we do .

Your passion for children will be underpinned by your natural ability to communicate and build strong nurturing relationships. You will be someone who is creative, enjoys teaching children and has an infectious enthusiasm about what you do. We’re looking for someone who will become a valuable team player always willing to go the extra mile.

Key Requirements:

  • Some experience in childcare
  • An understanding of what it requires to be a teacher
  • A love and passion for working with children and their whānau
  • An understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong professional ethics
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • A strong values base and a commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and bi-cultural practice
  • A willingness to learn, someone currently enrolled in study for an ECE teaching  qualification would have an advantage
